I don't know if VidLii will be the "last hope", there are plenty of folks who miss the old YouTube and have started their own sites to mimic it. ZippCast was one of those before it shut down, BitView is another (that one mimics 2005/2006 YouTube), and I am sure there will be more that appear if VidLii shuts down. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

I'm glad to hear that from you :) That always motivates me when users like it. My mom is very proud of me when she watched the last videos. She came crying to me. I comforted her. But I also had a low point in summer 2017 because of stress at work. I had to cut 3 videos and had no desire. But that brought nothing to complain. I had to do it.

I'm glad to have met someone else who also notices these things and thinks this way, some days I fear that I'm the only one who remembers and cares about old YouTube.

It started with the removal of channel customization, but in recent years, YouTube really has become nothing but a clone of TV, where "content creator" types compete with each other to see who can make more worthless clickbait videos. It really is very sad, because YouTube did have a very strong and fun community aspect of it back in the 2000s and early 2010s. People made videos for fun, or maybe for subscribers and some e-fame, but not for money.

I think the entire 2000s Internet was a fantastic time, and each specific year has its own feel to it.

We all are hoping that this site will thrive, and perhaps even become a serious competitor to YouTube. At the very least, though, we can still enjoy channel customization and videos (like the Japanese bug fighting) that YouTube has become too cowardly to host.

I actually made my first YouTube channel in March 2007, and I first discovered the site a little while before that. But, yes, 2009 was a very good year for the site.

I think most folks here really dislike what YouTube has become, and I am one of them. (Also, I was also on ZippCast before it shut down.)
